A symbol of military might since antiquity, Jupiter’s eagle, perched atop a thunderbolt, became the emblem of the First French Empire after serving as the standard of Imperial Rome. Inspired by the Roman legions, Napoleon I had the eagle placed atop the flagstaffs of his regiments, embodying both tradition and imperial authority.
Designed in 1804 by the sculptor Chaudet and cast in gilt bronze by the renowned bronzesmith Thomire, the imperial eagle was solemnly distributed to the army during a grand ceremony at the Champ-de-Mars, just days after Napoleon’s coronation, during which he swore in his troops.
In 1811, to reduce their considerable weight, the solid bronze eagles were replaced with hollow versions, assembled from two welded plates. Most were melted down at the end of the Empire or deliberately destroyed to avoid surrender. They reappeared briefly during the Hundred Days, crafted modestly in gilded wood — from Napoleon’s return from Elba to his second abdication, between March 20 and July 8, 1815.

You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).
